NIH Common Fund Launches Health Economic Program

This May the NIH Common Funded launched the Health Economic program in order to meet the growing need for rigorous health economic research. A major goal of this program will be the investigation of potential preventive measures to improve health and reduce growth in health costs. To inform the implementation of the new program the Common Fund supported a health economics meeting around NIH's research priorities for health care reform. The meeting report is available here. The implementation group for the new program is led by the Director of the NIMH, Thomas Insel (left) and Director of the NIA, Richard Hodes (right)
